Barbara-Ann to take Chains of Office

Councillor Barbara Ann Murphy from Bunclody is the new President of Enniscorthy and District Chamber of Commerce. She was elected at last week’s annual meeting and takes over  the Chains of Office from outgoing President, Maree Lyng.

Outgoing President Maree Lyng, congratulates her successor Councillor Barbara Ann Murphy

Barbara Ann has been a most effective Vice President since her appointment in 2020 and she brings to the role of President a wealth of experience from years of involvement in community affairs and political activity.

She is Chairperson of Enniscorthy Municipal Authority and is soon to be appointed Chairperson of Wexford County Council, following in the footsteps of her late father, Councillor Rory Murphy, who served as Chairman of the County’s premier political body in the past.

Taking over as President of Enniscorthy and District Chamber of Commerce from Maree Lyng,  our President for the past three years,  will be a real challenge for Barbara Ann as Maree brought a whole new dimension to the role with her enthusiastic commitment to the workings of the Chamber.  She involved herself in every aspect of the Chamber’s activities and unsparingly gave of her time and talents to promoting both the Chamber and Enniscorthy as a town in which to work, rest and socialise.

Maree advanced many of the major developments now coming to fruition in Enniscorthy i.e.: the Slaney Flood Relief Programme and the new Technology Park to name but two and it is only with the passing of time will her contribution be fully recognised and appreciated.

On behalf of all Chamber members, past and present, we say a sincere ‘thank you’ to Maree for a job well done and for leadership above reproach.
