Old Dunnes Stores Building to be developed

The Old Dunnes Stores building, which has been vacant for over a decade will finely be put to good use. If the deal that is in the works at the moment is completed with a local business family.

A source close to the deal said that he expects everything to be finalised within the next couple of weeks and those behind the sale are aiming to have at least three tenants for the retail space signed up quickly. While those behind the development are reluctant to comment until all of the paperwork is completed, exciting announcements are expected in the coming weeks in relation to the premium town centre premises.

The news will be welcomed by the local community in Enniscorthy, who have long stated that the empty store had sucked the life out of Ennsicorthy’s town centre and provided a major stumbling block to growing business there.

Development Officer at Enniscorthy & District Chamber, Jimmy Gahan, welcomed the news as a major positive for the town and is anxiously awaiting developments.

‘I would go as far as to say that talks on Dunnes are at a very advanced stage at the moment,’ he said.

‘I would expect that an announcement is imminent and the clear indications are that there will be several major announcements in the coming months with positive news also imminent on the Murphy Floods site.’

‘It’s very positive and we look forward to seeing a new chapter for the town centre.’
