Members of The Guild of London Freemen visit Enniscorthy

A group of 36 members of The Guild of London Freemen visited Enniscorthy recently and were accorded a Cead Mile Failte welcome by both the Municipal Authority and the Chamber of Commerce.

Led by The Master of the Guild, Mr. John Barbour, the visiting party were brought on a walking tour of Enniscorthy which included visits to St, Mary’s Church of Ireland and St. Aidan’s Cathedral and Enniscorthy Castle.  The tour was conducted by Mr. Aidan Ryan who gave a powerful insight into the origins and early history of Enniscorthy before giving an equally stimulating account of Pugin’s involvement in the construction of St. Aidan’s Cathedral.

The guests were entertained at a reception in Enniscorthy Castle where refreshments were provided and food served before addresses of welcome were delivered by Councillor Willie Kavanagh, Chairman, Enniscorthy Municipal Authority, Maree Lyng, President, Enniscorthy Town and District Chamber of Commerce and Liz Hore, Enniscorthy Town and District Manager. Mr. Tom Brazil of Wexford County Council also addressed the gathering and outlined investment opportunities throughout the county for would be investors.

The group stayed in The Riverside Park Hotel and visited many places of interest during their four day visit which included a trip to the Wexford Festival Opera which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A return visit is already been spoken of.
