Seamus Rafter Commemoration Ceremonies

Enniscorthy and District Chamber of Commerce will be represented at Sunday’s Commemoration Ceremonies marking the 100th., anniversary of the death of Seamus Rafter. The Enniscorthy born patriot died on September 13th., 1918 from injuries received when a bomb exploded prematurely as it was being primed for use against occupying forces.

In the unavoidable absence of Chamber President, Maree Lyng, Vice President, Michael O’ Leary will lead the Chamber delegation at the ceremonies which will commence with Con Celebrated Mass in St. Aidan’s Cathedral at 12.30 p.m. on Sunday, September 9th., After the Mass, Chamber members Michael Bennett, John Burke O’ Leary, Eric Barron, Eugene Doyle and Development Officer, Jimmy Gahan, will join Vice-President O’ Leary in a parade from the Cathedral to the Rafter Memorial in Abbey Square where a wreath will be laid and military honours rendered by members of the 3rd., Infantry Battalion who will also provide the Colour Party for the planned commemoration ceremonies.

Enniscorthy and District Chamber of Commerce is jointly organising the event with officials and members of Enniscorthy Municipal Authority.
